Teaching with Principles
At a very young age I wanted to be a teacher, an English teacher to be exact. I'm not sure what motivations I had, maybe because I liked the sound of my own voice and I thought that others cared a lot about what I had to say. Fortunately, my reasons for wanting to be teacher have changed.
I am in love with the idea of filling somebody up with knowledge that they don’t already have, enlightening them, showing them a new way of looking at life, or a new way of thinking. There is a certain thrill that comes over me when I see understanding flood over somebody and its addictive. Knowledge brings light into peoples lives and I can be apart of that. What a thrill.
Our young generation needs respect, they need validation. What I've always had with me is a sense of strong self worth and knowing also that others have just as much worth as me and everybody else, so that demands respect. Everybody is different but in the end we're all very much the same and everybody should be treated as such. And now you're probably expecting me to break out into a speech right now reciting something to the tune of 'I have a dream' No, I just place a high value on respect. I will always respect my students, always.
I will genuinely care for them, listen to them and be attentive to their specific individual needs, for we all learn and grow at different speeds. I don't want to be their friend, I just want to be a educating figure in their lives that respects them and cares about them succeeding in life.
As I have been taking this class I'm realizing that this really is a noble profession. I can go to work and have opportunities to make a difference in somebody’s life, and everyday I will teach with a goal of being a positive influence and not just some arrogant teacher that likes the sound of his own voice.
